The original Migration series started with a burst in the summer of 2008, between sessions of camp counseling at a girl's empowerment summer camp. I was looking at a catalogue of Cy Twombly's Lepanto exhibition, a large room of canvases abstractly depicting a battle at sea. One canvas leads into the next, like a cinematic panorama. I began the migration series in the same way, stretched across the studio, painting across many pieces at once. The images and the movement of their making felt like a migratory pattern, if everything that passes could leave a trace. I’ve included here other works that let the dots and drips rule, allow open white space to remain, and let the impulse of the brush move like a dance.
