Monotypes are one-of-a-kind paintings made with a printing press: the painting is made on a plexiglass plate, which is run through the press to produce a singular print. Sometimes what’s left on the plate will be the starting point for the next image, making a trail of responses. When the plate is pressed a second time unchanged, a "ghost image" is made.
